MIKE DERBY IN THE NEWS

Cannabis Caucus

The Cannabis Caucus is a loose affiliation of State Representatives, State Senators, lobbyists and the general public.

The Cannabis Caucus is not a public policy committee but is set up to provide information and educate the public and Legislature on Medical and Adult Use Cannabis.

The Cannabis Caucus hosted a series of briefings called Marijuana 101, 201, 301 and 401 which were carried by ConnectCenter1 TV throughout the State of South Dakota.

On February 3, 2021, I introduced HB 1225, which would put in place some laws to govern the sale, possession, and consumption of adult use retail marijuana. The bill clarified the legislature doesn’t endorse the decision voters made to pass Constitutional Amendment A in the general election, November 3, 2020. Rather, that lawmakers are following the will of the people.

On Feb. 24, State Affairs deferred HB 1225 to the 41st legislative day, following a circuit court judge ruling that Constitutional Amendment A is unconstitutional.
